Afraid Of Dentist: Expectations vs. Reality

Afraid Of Dentist: Expectations vs. Reality

Why are you Afraid of Dentist?

For some, even making an appointment can be very stressful. The good news is that we believe in providing each of our patients with the support and care they need and providing a wide range of inputs to help you get the most comfortable treatment possible.

How can we help you reduce your anxiety?

At Dental on Clarke, we understand these feelings of stress and anxiety, and for this reason, we have developed a habit that has a calm and comforting environment. We consult with each patient and take the time to understand your concerns before developing a treatment plan tailored to your individual needs.

As part of our services, we offer inpatient options, as well as alternatives to traditional local anesthetic delivery methods, which help to make treatment more manageable. Our sedation options include nitrous oxide (known as pleasant gas) and general anesthesia or sleeping teeth. We also offer a 'wand' which is a new way to bring local anesthesia. Each of these options has its advantages, and we will discuss them with you regarding your specific needs and treatments.

What is happy gas?

Known as pleasant gas, nitrous oxide sedation is a formula that works to calm patients down and to temporarily reduce their sensation in the mouth.

Electricity is absorbed through the nose through a special mask that stays on top of the nose. The mask is comfortable to wear, and the gas itself affects each patient differently. The result, however, is calmness and gentleness in all situations. When gas is inhaled, dental treatment can be done well.

With the use of pleasant gas, you will remain aware throughout the treatment. You will be able to speak with a dentist if you need to ask any questions or have concerns. The effects of gas last for just a few minutes without breathing, and you should not feel any side effects following treatment.

How does general anesthesia work?

General anesthesia is a method for people who feel very anxious, and who need a deep level of sleep during dental treatment. Also known as sleeping teeth, general anesthesia can be given at our day surgery center for those who cannot be treated in a chair.

During bedtime dentistry, you will not feel anything, and you will not remember your post-treatment procedure. Your anesthetist will advise you during your recovery and any possible side effects.

What is a 'rod'?

'Wand', is another local anesthetic that the syringe brought. A new technology, 'wand' is a computer-assisted system, which provides local pain extraction. This method is usually completely painless, and no sting is often associated with traditional injections. It is a great option for patients who feel anxious about the use of needles.

Is dentistry appropriate?

If you feel very anxious about visiting a dentist, you may prescribe essential dental treatment, which can lead to minor problems becoming painful, complex, and expensive later. Sedation Dentistry allows those suffering from dental anxiety to access the care they need. Thanks to advances in the field of dentistry, available anesthetics and anesthetics are highly effective, and they make dentistry more manageable.

Dental On Clarke is a practice of regular dentists at the heart of the Crows Nest in Sydney's North Shore. We offer compassionate, high-quality teeth for the entire family including protective dental care, cosmetic teeth, restorative teeth, and dental floss.
